Comfort Quilts

Comfort Quilt Since 2002, our small guild have made and donated from 50 to 75 quilts per year for the British Columbia Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver.  These quilts go to children from through out BC who end up in the BC Children's |Hospital due to long-term illnesses. They are for the children to use while they are in the hospital, for travelling to and from the hospital and then eventually to keep and take home with them.  We take pride in making many unique quilts that range from quilts for young children to older teenagers.

Each year in October or November we hold a Marathon weekend where members of the guild, family and friends come together and spend the weekend making quilts for this cause.   There are group leaders who spend a lot of time before the weekend making and designing kits so that the donated fabrics work well together. Besides the marathon weekend many of our members make more quilts to donate throughout the year to worth recipiants.

We have regular participants that are family members or friends of guild member who join us for the weekend and we are always happy to welcome anyone who is interested in joining us for the weekend either as a participant, volunteer or a spectator.  We have three long-time volunteers who look after us during the day--two make sure that we are well fed and hydrated and another makes sure that we don't get too knotted up by giving wonderful massages.

A large part of the fabric is donated by generous fabric manufactures; the rest of the fabric, batting and other supplies are bought from money that have been fund raised or donated by community members.
